Ministry Update October 2025
The Story of Augustine: When Compassion Meets Crisis
Dear Friends,
This month, I want to give you an update not through a list of events or announcements, but through a story. It’s a story of pain, resilience, and ultimately—hope. It’s the story of a young man named Augustine, and how your support helped change the course of his life.
Eight years ago, Augustine was working his land in the mountains of Guatemala when a group of robbers attempted to steal his crops. In the process of defending what little he had, he was shot in the leg. He survived the attack, but when he sought help from the public hospital, they refused to remove the bullet—assuming, without evidence, that he was a gang member. So the bullet stayed.
For years, Augustine lived with a worsening injury. Over time, the untreated wound became infected, the infection spread, and the bone in his leg began to deteriorate. His ability to walk, work, and provide for his family slowly slipped away. And now, as a young husband and new father, the situation became urgent. He had so much to live for, but his body was shutting down.
Just a few weeks ago, I was in Guatemala with a small team that included a doctor, a nurse practitioner, and a nurse. We were able to examine Augustine and provide a second opinion. The outcome was clear and devastating: without amputation, he would not survive.
That day, Dare for More stepped in.
Because of the generosity of supporters like you, we were able to fully cover Augustine’s medical expenses. The surgery was performed, and by God’s grace, it went very well. The doctors were able to save enough of his hip structure so that, in time, he can be fitted for a prosthetic leg—a gift that will allow him to return to his life, care for his child, and walk into a future that once seemed impossible.
Today, our team is actively working on securing a prosthesis for Augustine. And while we continue to pray for his healing and recovery, we’re also praising God—for the miracle of provision, for a successful surgery, and for the chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus in such a tangible way.
Every single day, our medical team in Guatemala is stepping into stories just like this one. They’re not only delivering critical care—they’re offering dignity, compassion, and hope. They’re showing up in the mess, in the emergencies, and in the moments where everything hangs in the balance.
And none of it would be possible without you.
To everyone who gives, prays, and supports Dare for More: thank you. You are part of Augustine’s story. You are part of every life saved, every family restored, every hope renewed. Because of your faithfulness, we’re able to meet people in their deepest need and remind them they are not forgotten.
