Fighting for Justice—One Case at a Time
Hello Friends
Not every part of the work we do at Dare for More is easy to talk about. Some of it is messy. Some of it is heavy. And some of it takes a toll so deep that it can only be sustained through prayer and the strength of God. This month, I want to share with you about one of those areas—the judicial side of our ministry in Guatemala.
When a woman and her children come to our safe house, there’s something important we ask from the very beginning: a willingness to prosecute their abuser. It’s not a decision we take lightly, and it’s not one we pressure them into. But it’s a core part of what we do for three powerful reasons:
It removes the abuser from the street, keeping others from harm.
It gives the woman an active role in breaking the cycle of abuse.
And most importantly, it sends a message—to her and her children—that their lives are worth fighting for.
Behind every case is a team of brave, brilliant women in Guatemala who guide each family through this process. Our psychologist helps families share their stories in a trauma-informed way—gently and with great care. Our social worker works tirelessly with lawyers, judges, and court officials to keep cases moving forward. It’s slow, difficult work, full of obstacles and opposition. And yet, they show up every day and fight for justice.
This year alone, we’ve seen over 30 cases tried, and 8 of those have resulted in convictions. One of the most recent involved a mother and her six children, all victims of unthinkable abuse—including the youngest, just 9 months old. After months of preparation and perseverance, a sentence was handed down: 8 years in prison for the offender.
This may not sound like a headline story—but for that family, it changed everything. It means safety. It means peace. It means a chance to relocate, start over, and rebuild without fear.
This side of our work is gritty and often unseen. There are no bright lights or easy victories. Some days it feels like crawling through filth and heartbreak, inch by inch, to bring justice forward. But this is the real fight for freedom—and our team shows up for it every single day.
Please pray for these amazing women who carry this weight. Their strength, resolve, and love for the women and children we serve is humbling. They are on the front lines of justice—spiritually, emotionally, and legally—and they need the covering of your prayers.
And thank you—for every prayer, every gift, every moment you spend reading these updates and choosing to care. You are part of this fight, too. Together, we are ensuring that no woman has to walk this road alone.
With gratitude,
Reba Bowman
