More than a Fabric Choice: A New Way Forward

The Guatemalan Fabric Store

For the first time, four women came together to make one decision.

Two from the U.S. team. Two from our Guatemala team. Together, they traveled to Guatemala City with one goal: to find the perfect fabrics for this year’s cosmetic and accessory pouch collections.

This may sound simple, but for us, it marks something important.

As our ministry and product line continue to grow, we’re becoming more intentional in every step of creation—slowing down, listening, collaborating, and thoughtfully choosing pieces that reflect the care behind everything we make.

The shop itself isn’t the kind of place you stumble into. It sits quietly in the middle of the city’s movement, easy to miss unless you already know it’s there. Inside, though, it holds years—decades—of tradition. Shelves and stacks filled with handwoven textiles, each one carrying its own story, its own history.

The owner has been part of that story for a long time. He greeted us warmly and, before long, invited us behind the counter to look more closely. That’s when the day really began to unfold.

We started pulling fabrics one by one, laying them out as we went. Some immediately caught our attention with bold color and detail, while others revealed themselves more slowly, the kind you appreciate more the longer you sit with them. At some point, the entire counter disappeared under layers of texture and pattern, and even the shop owner joined in, bringing out pieces he thought we shouldn’t miss.

What followed wasn’t quick or easy. We talked through each option, held them up in different light, compared tones, and imagined how they might come to life later. There was a lot of back-and-forth, a lot of second-guessing, and more than a few moments of laughter in between.

We weren’t just picking what looked good—we were choosing what felt right, what honored the work behind it, and what we believed would carry that story forward well.

By the end of the day, four fabrics rose to the top. Not because they were the loudest or the easiest choice, but because they stayed with us.

They’ll be limited, as always. But more than that, they carry with them the time, care, and intention of a day like this—one that simply wouldn’t happen without your support.

Two you’ll see released now for Spring/Summer.

Two are being held for Fall.

These pouches are more than beautiful fabric choices—they represent intentional growth, collaboration across cultures, and women creating together with care and purpose.

And that’s a process we don’t take lightly.
