More Than Medicine: Where Healing Meets Eternal Hope
During our recent medical trip to Guatemala, we had the opportunity to serve in three different communities where access to medical care is extremely limited. Medical personnel from across the United States joined together to help meet both physical and spiritual needs, and we were grateful to partner with Medical Missions Outreach, whose experience and expertise made this work possible. Local pastors were also present to pray and build ongoing relationships within each village.
Over the course of the week, the team cared for more than 360 patients—men, women, children, and the elderly—treating everything from common illnesses to advanced medical conditions. Each person who came through the clinic received basic care, necessary medications, and time in prayer.
One moment from the week continues to stay with us.
A man came to the clinic very sick, seeking help. After receiving care, he spent time speaking with one of the local pastors. In that conversation, he recognized his need for a Savior and chose to place his trust in Christ. He was also the brother of one of our Dare for More clinic staff members, making that moment especially meaningful for our team.
For those serving that week, it was a powerful reminder of why they were there. In the middle of a long week, in a remote place, God had orchestrated that moment. While his physical condition is serious and his time may be limited, the hope he found that day is eternal.
Moments like this also highlight the deeper reality we encounter in these communities. Many people we serve are facing conditions that have gone untreated for far too long. Limited access to care, financial hardship, and fear often prevent them from seeking help until it is too late.
This is why the work of establishing ongoing, accessible medical care is so important. While these trips allow us to meet immediate needs, they also point us toward the long-term solutions we are continuing to build through the Dare for More clinic.
We are grateful for the team who served with such compassion and excellence, and for partners like Medical Missions Outreach who make this work possible. We look forward to more opportunities to return and continue serving these communities in the future.
