What God Is Doing While You’re Waiting
When God asks us to wait, He is doing deeper work in us—even when we can’t see it.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
—Psalm 27:14
Waiting may be one of the hardest parts of life—especially when the rest of the world seems to be moving forward just fine without us. We wait for answers, for clarity, for healing, for things to finally change. And if we’re honest, waiting often feels unproductive, inefficient, and uncomfortable. We don’t mind progress, but pause? That’s harder to embrace.
Yet Scripture speaks often about waiting—not as wasted time, but as meaningful space where God is at work. Psalm 27 doesn’t tell us to wait passively or reluctantly. It calls us to wait with courage, trusting that God is strengthening our hearts in the process. That’s not always easy to believe, especially when nothing seems to be happening.
The truth is, God often does His deepest work beneath the surface. Just like roots grow unseen before a tree ever bears fruit, God is shaping our character, deepening our trust, and refining our faith in seasons of waiting. Even when progress feels invisible, transformation is taking place.
Waiting also reveals what we lean on most. It exposes our impatience, our desire for control, and our tendency to rush God’s timing. But it can also become a place where we learn to rest, to listen, and to trust God more fully. What feels like delay may actually be preparation.
Waiting doesn’t mean God has forgotten you. It often means He’s preparing you—for what’s next, for greater responsibility, or for a deeper dependence on Him. When we trust that God is working even when we can’t see it, waiting becomes less about frustration and more about faith.
Practical Takeaways
When waiting feels overwhelming, remind yourself that unseen growth still counts.
Ask God what He might be forming in you during this season, not just what He might be changing around you.
Practice patience in small ways as a reminder that God’s timing is purposeful, not careless.
